Holding its position as the 8th richest country in the world the United Arab Emirates boasts their wealth through extravagant and colossal sized shopping malls, fast cars and their forever growing and developing cities.
Dubai is one of seven Emirates in the UAE and is located in the South eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. Dubai is home to some of the most famous locations on the globe, such as the Burj Khalifa standing as the tallest man made structure in the world with 160 floors and a height of 830m (2,720 feet), The Burj Al Arab the world’s only 7 star hotel, The Palm an entirely manmade island home to the Atlantis hotel and of course currently the biggest shopping mall in the world, The Dubai Mall.
The Dubai Mall oozes glamour and style from the swanky exterior to the designer shops that await inside. It includes 1,200 stores across 4 floors such as Chanel, Bvlgari, Rolex and Tommy Hilfiger. For all the makeup lovers out there the mall has a range of makeup stores from the huge Sephora located on the upper ground level to MAC, Inglot and Makeup Forever. When you start feeling a little peckish after exploring the stores the mall has to offer, visit one of 150 restaurant outlets including fine dining, fast food and café’s. Grab a bite to eat then perhaps head down to the mall aquarium and underwater zoo! You can travel through the tunnel inside the 10 million litre tank for a closer look at AED 250 (£43.61) it’s perfect for all the family.
Outside the mall you’ll have stunning views of the Burj Khalifa which is definitely a photo opportunity; you can even get a professional to take a photo of you and your family in front of the Burj Khalifa available for you to buy. Another great attraction in this area is the Dubai fountains, they look absolutely beautiful in the evenings when the sun is setting, the synchronisation of the fountains and music is breath taking. I also recommend paying to go up to the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa, you are greeted by a friendly tour guide in a waiting room on the ground floor of the Dubai Mall where you can indulge in Dates and Arabic coffee. It takes around 2 minutes to get to the top Once you reach the 148th floor you will enter the Sky Lounge and be greeted by their friendly staff who will give you a choice of juices and a selection of sweets, all complimentary of course. You can then enjoy panoramic views of Dubai, The world islands and on a clear day you can even see as far as the Burj Al Arab. Be sure to take tons of photos and get a professional one taken of you and your family available to buy on the 124th floor.
Finally another unforgettable trip I experienced during my Dubai adventure was The Atlantis Aquaventure waterpark. I was fortunate enough to do the Shark Safari. You are put into a group of about 8 people with two members of Atlantis Staff and an underwater photographer; you then are given breathing apparatus and a helmet that covers your head and face. Next a member of staff slowly helps you down the ladder into the water and once you are down there you will be lost for words at what you will see. You will be surrounded by sharks, stingrays and a school of beautiful fish. You walk along the tank floor and pictures are taken of you by the photographer with the fish. You are down in the water for about 30 minutes and it costs AED 295 (£51.37) which is well worth the money if you are a fan of the deep blue and want some shots with a couple of sharks!
These are just a small portion of activities for you to enjoy during your visit to Dubai; a two week holiday is just not enough to experience all Dubai has to offer. There is a still ton left to explore such as Camel riding, Desert Safari’s, Ferrari World and the close by city of Abu Dhabi. I will say no more and leave it a surprise for when you choose to visit this incredible and futuristic city!
