Festive Place – Your place to kick off Christmas

Recently renamed shopping centre, “Festive” Place, marked the official start of Christmas in Basingstoke on Friday with their traditional Christmas lights switch-on in Festival Square.

The light switch-on, followed by a 10-minute fireworks and laser display, was the first of a series of events and activities organised by the centre to spread the festive cheer this season.

Hundreds of people turned out for the popular annual event, which saw Anvil Panto theatre star Mark Little (AKA Neighbours’ Joe Mangle) lead the countdown to the switch-on, along with Santa himself.

Breeze FM’s Breakfast presenters, Ben Moseby and Lizzie Crow hosted the event, including performances from The Military Wives Choir, made famous by Gareth Malone’s original BBC TV series, The Choir.  Who kicked off the entertainment with a mix of traditional Christmas carols and festive songs.

Festival Place Centre Director Steven Connolly said: “It was a very good start to Christmas. The light switch-on is a real family occasion and was great to see so many happy faces.”

Last week also saw the centre launch their Christmas Experience. The best way to meet Santa, here children can enjoy a Christmas train trip before making a special visit to Santa’s festive grotto.   To book your place visit www.bookfatherchristmas.co.uk/festivalplace

The shopping centre will hold its Santa Parade on Sunday, December 6, when Father Christmas will march through the centre with his festive friends, including Elsa from the Disney hit, Frozen.
